Plain-language privacy.

Honest version: some things stay on your device. Some things must leave your device for the AI guide to reply. Here is exactly which is which.

Where your words go

  1. Notes, scratchpad, and chat history stay in the browser

    They live in this device’s local storage. We do not keep a permanent account archive of your practice sessions. Clearing site data clears them. Export if you want a local copy.

  2. When you send a message

    Your access key and the message content are sent to the How To Human server so we can check the key and assemble the space guide.

  3. To generate a reply

    The server sends conversation context to an AI provider through OpenRouter (a model router). The configured model is typically openai/gpt-4o-mini (or whichever model we set via our server config). That hop is required for the product to work. Do not share anything you would not share with an AI system.

  4. Training and retention

    We do not use your conversations to train How To Human’s own product models, and we do not store chat transcripts as a permanent server-side archive for marketing or model training. API calls go through OpenRouter, where we enable account-level zero-data-retention (ZDR) / privacy guardrails for eligible models (including non-frontier routes). Downstream providers still process the request under their terms; keep messages non-identifying if you need maximum caution.

  5. Payments

    Handled by Lemon Squeezy, not on this site. License recovery uses your checkout email and order ID together.

“Local-first” means history and notes live in your browser by default — not that nothing ever leaves your machine. Processing a reply requires a network call. Messages are processed so the guide can reply.

What we do not do

  • No user accounts

    You do not create a passworded profile. Access is a key (or a free try session).

  • No permanent chat archive on an account

    Practice history is stored in your browser unless you export it yourself.

  • No diagnosis or medical file

    We do not ask for clinical records as a condition of use.

  • No payment card on this site

    Cards are processed by Lemon Squeezy under their terms.

  • No marketing trackers promised in v1

    If analytics are added later, they will be disclosed here.
